People Inc. is proud to be recognized as one of seven agencies to be a certified New York State Compass Agency. “Compass” stands for Consumerism, Outcome, Management Plan and Agency Self-Survey. Since 2010, People Inc. has been designated a Compass agency by the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD ) as a top provider of quality services.
An initiative through the OPWDD, Compass supports and recognizes provider agencies that have progressed beyond minimal regulatory compliance and achieved excellence in service delivery. This recognizes People Inc. as having the capability and leadership to conduct its own self surveys and manage a quality improvement process rather than being dependent on the State Quality Management Department survey team.
Compass agencies engage their entire organization by encouraging service recipients, board members, management and staff to work together in a person-centered environment with the goal of promoting and achieving valued outcomes for the people served.
Compass focuses an agency’s efforts on quality through ongoing internal assessment rather than external review. Instead of agencies concentrating their efforts on “passing” a periodic recertification inspection, continual review activities are conducted with the goal of identifying and correcting problems as part of an agency’s internal quality management process.
While Compass may be a newer initiative of OPWDD, its belief system for person centered planning, managed outcomes and advocacy involvement by individuals and their family members are programs People Inc. has historically completed – and continue to do perform on a daily basis.
