Museum of disABILITY History Receives Award for Website

BUFFALO, N.Y., December 6, 2006: The Museum of disABILITY History, a project of People Inc., is pleased to announce that it has received an "Organizational Award of Merit" from the Western New York Association of Historical Agencies at the Association's 2006 Annual Meeting.

This award was presented to the Museum of disABILITY History for its outstanding new website, www.museumofdisability.org. As noted by the Association, "the award was for the development and launching of a dynamic new interactive website that documents the many aspects of disability history in a balanced manner." In presenting the award, the Association further stated that "the Museum of disABILITY History has, through the use of unique virtual exhibits and an extensive bibliography, created a website that makes the history of people with disabilities accessible to all individuals throughout the world." The Museum's new website was funded with the generous support of the B. Thomas Golisano Foundation and People Inc., the Museum's parent organization.

The Museum of disABILITY History is dedicated to advancing the understanding, acceptance and independence of people with disabilities. The Museum's exhibits, collections, archives and educational programs preserve and document the history of people with disabling conditions and serve to create awareness and a platform for dialogue and discovery.

The Western New York Association of Historical Agencies Awards Program recognizes excellence within the historical field in the twelve-county WNY region for the purpose of encouraging projects of similar excellence and to focus attention on projects that can serve as models to encourage other organizations to attempt similar activities.

The Museum of disABILITY History, located at 1291 North Forest Road, is a project of People Inc., the leading human service agency in Western New York. The Museum is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment. For further information about the Museum, call 716-817-7261 or visit the website: www.museumofdisability.org.
