Monument for the Forgotten Exhibit Opening
The Museum of disABILITY History is holding its grand opening event for its Monument for the Forgotten exhibit on Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at 3826 Main Street, Buffalo. The exhibit pays homage to the individuals who died in area institutions and were buried in desolate, nameless and unmarked graves. These individuals were long forgotten as time passed, but they are forgotten no more due to cemetery restoration efforts of area volunteers and businesses.

Volunteers and businesses who have assisted with cemetery restoration efforts will be honored. Attendees are also invited to participate in a panel discussion, following the program, entitled “Institutional Cemetery Restoration - Why We Restore.”

Founded in 1998, the Museum of disABILITY History is a project of People Inc. that is dedicated to advancing the understanding, acceptance and independence of people with disabilities.

Flag Raising Ceremony at People Inc. Holly Senior Living in Angola
The rain stopped just in time for guests and tenants to watch the American flag get raised on its new flag pole at People Inc. Holly Senior Living in Angola on June 12.

The program started inside with a welcome from Linda Chapple, manager of People Inc. Holly Senior Living. She spoke about the importance of the flag pole being at their location to show a sense of community and to welcome people home. Angola Deputy Mayor and Trustee William Houston shared stories and spoke about helping each other in the community. Judge Dennis P. Glascott, the keynote speaker, shared the meaning of Flag Day.

The group gathered outside to watch members of the Color Guard from American Legion Post 928 (Derby) provide a ceremonial presentation of the flag being raised. While the flag was raised, the crowd burst into song with “God Bless America!”

Apartment tours were provided during the event to community members. For independent seniors age 62 or older, People Inc. Holly Senior Living provides affordable living.
