James M. Boles, Ed.D., who grew up in Lockport, is president and chief executive officer of People Inc., Western New York’s largest health and human services agency. He will be sharing his research for his latest book, "When There Were Poorhouses, Early Care in Rural New York, 1808-1950." Dr. Boles attended Columbia University in New York to earn both his Doctor of Education degree and Master of Education degree specializing in Family and Community Relations. His main interests include local history and the history of disabilities.

Continuum of Care: A History of WNY Human Service Agencies
The Museum’s newest exhibit, Continuum of Care: A History of WNY Human Service Agencies will be unveiled at Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day on May 24, 2012. The first installment of this exhibit will highlight the unique histories of some notable agencies in Niagara County including Family and Children’s Service of Niagara, The Sunshine League, and St. Mary’s on the Lake. What makes this exhibit unique from previous Museum of disABILITY History exhibits is that it is designed to accommodate the addition of other local human service agencies. Included with the exhibit will be information on how other WNY agencies can be included in future installments of the Continuum of Care exhibit. "Kids on the Block" Out-and-About in Western New York!
Kids on the Block of WNY puppets and puppeteers have been very busy since the start of the school year! The disability awareness puppet program has been presented in 40 schools (and counting!) to over 3,500 third and fourth grade students. The "Reading with a Puppet" program has been presented in 30 schools (and counting!) to over 2,900 kindergarten, first and second grade students.
Kids on the Block of WNY have been invited to several special events this year to "meet and greet" our fans and supporters at the following events:
- The Parent Expo at the Childrens Safety Village in Chautauqua County
- The disABILITIES Film Festival and Speaker Series
- The Buffalo Chili Fest
- Hunter’s Day of Hope for Children
- Disability Awareness Celebrations at Elmwood Village Charter and Hoover Elementary
- Character Carnival sponsored by the Character Council of WNY
- Buffalo St. Patrick’s Day Parade
