Rivershore, Inc. Announces Affiliation with People Inc.

Rivershore, Inc., a private not-for-profit organization that supports people living with developmental and other disabilities in Niagara County, recently announced that it has become an affiliate of People Inc., Western New York’s leading non-profit human services agency. The collaboration coordinates services in Western New York, allowing for more efficient operations and a sharper focus on service excellence in a changing landscape. Rivershore will retain its name, separate corporate status and staff and will operate independently. To view the press release, click here.

City of Buffalo Mayor’s Day of Recognition for National Service
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Oswaldo Mestre Jr., director for Division of Citizen Services, held a Mayor’s Day of Recognition for National Service at the Montante Cultural Center on April 1. People Inc. Chief Operating Officer Rhonda Frederick made remarks to honor the volunteer efforts and great work that service members do to benefit their communities.

Kaamalal Robinson, Luvena Moore and Valetta Barlow of People Inc.’s Senior Companion Program, in collaboration with Schiller Park Community Center, were recognized with honors among many other volunteer programs serving Western New York. A number of dignitaries attended the event as well. Among them, Commissioner of Senior Services for Erie County Randy Hoak and University District Councilmember Rasheed Wyatt.

The People Inc. Senior Companion Program links seniors who are homebound or frail with a companion who volunteers to spend quality time together.
People Inc. Recruiters Meet Geraldo Rivera
People Inc. recruiters had the opportunity to meet Geraldo Rivera, journalist and author, during the Cumulus Radio job fair on March 10, entitled, “Putting Buffalo Back to Work.” He is one of the most renowned journalists of his time and is recognized in the human service industry for his efforts put forth in the Willowbrook investigations. During that time, Rivera conducted a series of investigations exposing the hidden secrets behind the institution and its terrible conditions for people with developmental disabilities.

People Inc. on the Road in Niagara County
With a growing presence throughout the region, recently Kevin Horrigan, People Inc. government relations director, presented an overview to the Niagara County Legislature on People Inc.’s presence in the area. Over the last few years, People Inc. has expanded into Niagara County and continues to do so with its recent affiliation of Rivershore, Inc. of Lewiston. Additionally, several books have been published through the Museum of disABILITY History that focuses on the regions historical significance.

“People Inc. is a wonderful organization that does so much good for those that are in need,” said Bill Ross, chairman of the Niagara County Legislature. “I would encourage people to also take a look at some of the books they have published like, Dr. Skinner’s Remarkable School for Colored, Deaf, Dumb, and Blind Children and The Gold Cure Institutes of Niagara Falls, NY 1890s.”

Exclusive Screening of Raising Matty Christian Featured at Spring disABILITIES Film Festival
Raising Matty Christian, profiles the life of Matthew “Matty” Christian, who was born without full limbs and a tongue. As told through interviews with his parents, brother and several close friends, Raising Matty Christian paints a portrait of an inspiring young man who never took no for an answer, achieved a great deal of success and set out to live life to the fullest. Join us for the Spring 2014 disABILITIES Film Festival and Speaker Series on Friday, April 25. The event is hosted by the Museum of disABILITY History and People Inc.
