People Inc. President and CEO James M. Boles Receives Award from American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
People Inc. is pleased to announce that its President and Chief Executive Officer James M. Boles, Ed.D. was recently honored by the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities with the 2011 Hervey B. Wilburn Historic Preservation Award. West Seneca Developmental Center Closing
On July 26, a closing ceremony was held for the West Seneca Developmental Center on East and West Road in West Seneca, NY. Lots of memories were shared as former residents and staff shared stories and a fond farewell. People Inc. Chief Operating Officer and Developmental Disabilities Alliance of Western New York President Rhonda Frederick spoke to the crowd. Participants from People Inc.’s Young Adult Life Transitions (YALT) of Daemen College attended the closing ceremony program.
In the upcoming months, the Western New York Developmental Disabilities Services Office will consolidate into smaller administrative buildings on its campus. Find out more by reading the article in The Buffalo News, “A place once called home.”

Wish Granted: Chuck Fuller sees a Yankees Game in New York City
A long-time New York Yankees fan, Chuck Fuller at the age of 74, finally got his wish come true – he saw a game in New York City for the first time! Over the past 11 years, Chuck, an individual living in one of People Inc.’s residences in Buffalo expressed an interest to see a Yankees game in New York City to his Service Coordinator Tanya Wesolowski. And wishes do come true….

Coming Soon: War and Disability Exhibit at Museum of disABILITY History
People Inc.’s Museum of disABILITY History is pleased to soon be unveiling its newest exhibit, “War and disABILITY.” It will be open to the public to view starting August 19. The exhibit focuses on the social perception, care and treatment of veterans who are disabled throughout history. The “War and disABILITY”exhibit examines the American military and disability experience in terms of medical and military technology, legislation regarding veterans, the psychiatric effects of combat, pop-culture and disability,Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, traumatic brain injury and the contributions of individuals with disabilities in times of national need.

Welcome Active Military Personnel! People Inc.’s Museum of disABILITY History is proud to be part of the Blue Star Museums program offering free admission through Labor Day, September 5, to active duty military personnel and their families. The Blue Star Museums initiative is a partnership among Blue Star Families, the National Endowment for the Arts and more than 1,000 museums across America. The free admission program is available to active-duty military and their family members (military ID needed and up to five family members). Active duty military personnel include Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and active duty National Guard and active duty Reserve members. People Inc. Recognized through Six Sigma Training Program
Four members of the People Inc. team were recognized recently at the United Way of Western New York for their participation in its Six Sigma training program. Tracy Harrienger, Kimberly Kadziolka, Karen Lazik and Caroline Roeder were awarded a “yellow belt,” after completing a Six Sigma project, which examined the relationship between incident reporting and employee retention. Congrats!

“Americorps Member for a Day” is an opportunity for people in the community to volunteer for a day with AmeriCorps volunteers at various locations throughout Western New York. Community Relations Coordinator Bradford Watts volunteered with Martin Luther King Charter School in Buffalo and assisted a kindergarten art class. Associate Vice President Concetta Ferguson also assisted at another location.
