Microsoft Awards People Inc. $1,000,000 in Software and $10,000 in Hardware People Inc. is excited to have been selected by Microsoft as a key nonprofit partner! On November 16, People Inc. was awarded $1,000,000 in Microsoft software to upgrade its operating systems and provide special programs to sites. The awards were announced during the grand opening celebration of the Microsoft Store at Walden Galleria Mall. Additionally, as part of the partnership, People Inc. was also awarded $10,000 in hardware, which was used to purchase Microsoft Tablets for use by staff working in individuals’ homes and community settings. Having mobile devices helps avoid unnecessary travel back to offices, and allows more immediate access to decision-making information, which all contributes to more efficient service-delivery. All Microsoft employees from the new Walden Galleria location have toured some of People Inc.’s group homes, People Inc. Senior Living, the Museum of disABILITY History and have started volunteering with the agency. People Inc. will also have access to utilizing the Microsoft space and technology for training needs onsite at their store throughout the year. We look forward to this great partnership! Benefits for Everyone with People lnc. Supported Employment Having a job and maintaining it is very important to people with developmental disabilities. The People Inc. Supported Employment Program helps individuals do exactly that! Through the program, participants have a job coach, training and support from the business where they work. One such business is Scotch ‘N Sirloin Restaurant, which has been involved in the program for more than 20 years. Participant of the program, Martinnias Hardy, has worked at Scotch ‘N Sirloin for 25 years and is treated like family by the owners. His commitment is shown each day as he takes a bus, subway and another bus to get to work and then back home, Monday through Friday. Northtowns Respite House Provides Relief Respite care is temporary care away from home. It can also be a big relief for caregivers who have a loved one with a developmental disability. It is also a great time for the participants of the program! For many families, respite is crucial to caring for a loved one with a developmental disability. Parents and other family get a break, while guests have a great time with the fun activities available to them. Each item is lovingly hand-made and no two items are the same. Additionally, holiday cards are for sale with designs made by individuals served by People Inc.
