If you or a family member would like to join a conversation with state OPWDD leadership, you will have the opportunity in 2025. "Family Listening Sessions" will be conducted by the Georgetown University National Center for Cultural Competence, on behalf of the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities to learn about your experiences in accessing supports and services. The sessions will be held on Zoom or by telephone starting in January 2025. To join, you need to register and have access to a telephone or the internet (i.e., tablet or computer). The listening sessions will be offered in English, the 12 languages required by the NYS Language Access Law, and American Sign Language (ASL).

Ombudsman Program Named "Program of Excellence"

For more than 13,000 older adults and people living with disabilities in Western New York’s long-term care facilities, the Region 15 NYS Ombudsman Program, administered through People Inc., serves as a crucial lifeline. Its mission is to ensure residents’ rights are upheld, offering much-needed advocacy, education and means of empowerment. The Network in Aging of Western New York recognized program staff for their regional work by naming them the "2024 Program of Excellence".
