Museum of disABILITY History’s February Dialogues on disABILITY Speaker Series
The Museum of disABILITY History’s Dialogues on disABILITY Speaker Series for the month of February will feature Dr. Kim E. Nielsen, professor of Disability Studies, History and Women’s and Gender Studies from The University of Toledo. The presentation will be held on Friday, February 21, from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Dr. Nielsen will review her book, A Disability History of the United States.

The event will focus on stories of historical figures with disabilities, as well as changing definitions of disability over the course of time. Additionally, Dr. Nielsen will emphasize disability in law, culture and why the history of people with disabilities is important to all. Dr. Nielsen is a member of the International Advisory Board for the Museum of disABILITY History.
This Dialogues on disABILITY event is cosponsored by the University at Buffalo Center for Disability Studies. It is free for Museum members, $5 for adults and $2.50 for seniors, students and human service employees. The event fee includes admission to the gallery space of the Museum of disABILITY History. The Museum of disABILITY History was pleased to receive a donation of $860 from the Western District New York State Physical Therapy Association. The funds represent the proceeds of the Association's Holiday Party. Presenting the check to Museum director, Doug Farley, are Jacob (Jake) McPherson, Alanna Pokorsla and Theresa Kolodzies

Publications Available through the Museum of disABILITY History
The list of books published under People Ink Press and the Museum of disABILITY History continues to grow. These publications are part of the efforts and mission to create a more accepting society. Room Rentals Available
The Museum of disABILITY History is located inside of a lovely two-story brick building and, in an effort to share our facilities with different organizations in the community, two conference rooms are available for rental purposes. Ethernet availability, laptop connection capabilities and other features are available. Each room is available for use Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
and is fully ADA-compliant. Special permission is required to schedule a room outside of the standard hours. For more information or to schedule a conference room, call 716-629-3626.

Museum of disABILITY History Acts as a Resource
Museum of disABILITY History Director and Curator, Doug Farley and Doug Platt, along with People Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer James M. Boles, Ed.D., were recently interviewed for an article that was included in the Bee Publications Community Outlook section. It was entitled, “Momentum continues for those with disabilities.”

The Museum of disABILITY History was included in an article by Disability.gov, the federal government website for people with disabilities. Check out #7 in “10 Activities to Make This Year Count.”

New T-shirts Now Available
The Museum of disABILITY History has two new t-shirts now available in the store! Bearing the Museum name, we have successfully portrayed the first Disability Independence Day in 1990, and a historical portrait of a young Helen Keller with her teacher Anne Sullivan and guide dog. Sizes from small to 2X are available in the following colors: kiwi green, savanna brown, honey yellow, burnt orange and gravel gray. These great souvenirs will certainly spark conversation.
