People Inc. CEO Discusses Shift in Care
James M. Boles, Ed.D, People Inc. President and CEO was featured in The Buffalo News 2013 Prospectus. The Prospectus is a special publication that examines the 2013 outlook for Western New York businesses in healthcare, auto, education, banking and employment. The article discusses how the state "plans to work through entities called Developmental Disabilities Individual Support and Care Coordination Organizations, also known as DISCOs, in dispensing hundreds of millions dollars statewide" as part of the move towards a managed care system for the developmentally disabled.

On Martin Luther King’s Day, volunteers from the Tapestry High School helped move People Inc. programs, including Seniors Unlimited and Arts Experience, into their new home at 2635 Delaware Ave with City Capp. The collaboration stemmed from Roseanne Jackson, a clinical social worker at the Elmwood Health Center and her son who attends Tapestry High School. “It’s always great to see employees in the agency taking pride in the organization; ultimately helping in our mission of creating an accepting society by integrating family and community members in what we do,” said Dr. James M. Boles, President and CEO of People Inc.

Amherst Themed Learning Club Performs
In December, family, friends and community members packed the Amherst High School auditorium to see the first ever Amherst Themed Learning Club (TLC) Holiday show, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Nearly twenty participants from the program performed in the play, each having an opportunity to showcase their special talents; singing, dancing, acting or all three. Even Santa was able to attend the holiday show. He made a surprise visit to the stage after the conclusion of the performance to congratulate the performers on a job well done.

kNOw Bullying Program Launched!
The Museum's "kNOw bullying!" Program premiered this January at Eden Elementary School! The anti-bullying initiative is a collaborative effort between teachers, students, administrators, parents, and members of the community. The fourth grade students at Eden Elementary were a wonderful audience for the first show and we are so proud of them for "learning to be bully free!" The Charitable IRA Rollover is Back: At Least For 2013!
The most recent tax law passed by Congress and signed by President Obama, included the reinstatement of the charitable IRA rollover. To recap the context of this rule, people who are 70.5 years old and have traditional IRAs must take required distributions and pay tax on the withdrawals. This law reinstates the ability for these folks to transfer up to $100,000 from their traditional IRAs to charitable organizations without having to pay tax on their minimum distributions. (As a side note, since Roth IRAs have no required minimum distributions, this rule does not apply to them.)
The charitable IRA rollover was last applicable in 2011. During all of 2012, many older donors and charitable organizations were left wondering if the rule would be reinstated.
