Just Days Away for Events with Jewel Kats
Award-winning children’s book author and comic-strip writer, Jewel Kats, will visit the Museum of disABILITY History for a two-day event on Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22, at 3826 Main Street in Buffalo.

On Friday, June 21, from 7 p.m.-9 p.m., the Museum of disABILITY History will host “An Evening with DitzAbled Princess Jewel Kats.” An adult friendly interview-style discussion with Jewel will be held where she will speak candidly about her life as a “DitzAbled Princess.” Jewel is the author of the comic strip titled “DitzAbled Princess,” which is based on her own life as a diva who considers her disability her fortune. Jewel’s web comic has become a revolutionary online phenomenon and has over 700,000 fan views. Copies of her comical diary will be available for purchase and signing. Refreshments will be provided.

A family-oriented event, the “Your Crowning Achievement” event will be held on Saturday, June 22, from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. There will be a book reading of Jewel’s fairy tale “Cinderella’s Magical Wheelchair.” Children will also have the opportunity to participate in a “make your own crown or tiara” craft activity. Books will be available for purchase with an autograph session. The event is geared towards children ages five and up. Popcorn and healthy snacks will be provided.

Admission fees apply for both events, which includes admission to the Museum of disABILITY History.

Where to park? There will be a tent outside with limited parking available around the perimeter. Additional parking will be available at the lot next-door at Sacred Heart Academy and the lot next-door to Sacred Heart at the KeyBank building near the corner of Main Street and Eggert Road.

“Celebrating Differences” at Monkey See, Monkey Do… Children’s Bookstore
Need some fun and educational reading this summer? The Museum of disABILITY History, will host “Celebrating Differences” on Saturday, June 29, from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. at Monkey See, Monkey Do… Children’s Bookstore, 9060 Main Street in Clarence. There will be book readings of Ivan the Invacar book series and “disABILITY Awareness” skits by Kids on the Block of WNY puppeteers. The Ivan the Invacar book series is written by James M. Boles, president of People Inc. The books are brightly illustrated to introduce children to disabilities and how to be more independent with adaptive equipment. The books also explore Ivan’s “superhero powers” and adventures! This event is free and geared towards children ages five an up. Books will be for sale. To learn more or to RSVP, call 716-629-3623.
