Welcoming Seniors with Low-Income to our Community
To make the case for affordable senior housing in Western New York, Columnist Donn Esmonde for The Buffalo News, recently referenced People Inc.’s Oak Senior Living in Clarence. The example was how a community through the leadership of its elected leaders notably Supervisor Scott Bylewski worked together to allow people from the “Greatest Generation” to move into an accepting town. “African Americans and the disABILITY Experience” on Display at People Inc.’s Museum of disABILITY History
People Inc.’s Museum of disABILITY History newest exhibit called, “African Americans and the disABILITY Experience” will be on display until April 22. Educators, students, community groups, religious leaders, and medical and human service professionals are encouraged to visit. The one-of-a-kind exhibit chronicles the perspective of African-Americans in relation to their experiences with disability from colonial times, desegregation, advocacy and achievement. The Museum of disABILITY History is located at 3826 Main Street in Amherst. For more information or to schedule a guided tour, call 716-629-3626. “Spread the Word to End” the Word Advocacy Fair
On March 2, People Inc. hosted a Self Advocacy Fair for agencies that work with individuals with developmental disabilities to introduce the individuals they serve to their right to self advocacy. Whether participating in community service projects or political issues, self advocates have found their voice. Recent self advocacy efforts have centered on the “Spread the Word to End the Word” campaign to eradicate the “R” word. Find out more…

Speakers Bureau Available to Share Personal Stories and Education
Brain injury is a prominent topic in the news these days with the injuries to our soldiers from bomb blasts in the mid-east to the recent shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford. As part of March being Brain Injury Awareness Month, Headway of Western New York, an affiliate of People Inc. and a support agency for survivors of brain injury, is offering a Speakers Bureau. New Art Specialist at People Inc.’s Seniors Unlimited Program Shows Therapeutic Results for People with Memory Loss
Amazing results can be attained with art therapy. People Inc.’s Seniors Unlimited located at 310 Delaware Avenue in Buffalo understands the importance of art therapy in the lives of those with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
