Tourette Syndrome is Focus of Upcoming Dialogues on disABILITY Speaker Series
As part of its Dialogues on disABILITY Speaker Series, the Museum of disABILITY History will host Susan Conners, author and president and founder of the Tourette Syndrome Association of Greater New York State. The “Tourette Syndrome – What makes us tic?” presentation will be held on Friday, May 30, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 3826 Main Street in Buffalo.
A number of focus areas will be discussed, including criteria for diagnosis, common neurological disorders, as well as strategies and techniques for working with people who have Tourette Syndrome.
The Dialogues on disABILITY event is $5 for adults and $2.50 for seniors, students and human service employees, which includes admission to the gallery space of the Museum of disABILITY History. For more information or to register, call 716.629.3626.


Niagara County Almshouse Cemetery Restoration Ceremony
Join us for the Niagara County Almshouse Cemetery Restoration Ceremony, hosted by the Museum of disABILITY History and People Inc. The event will be held on Thursday, June 5, at 10 a.m., 5526 Niagara Street Extension, Lockport. The event will recognize volunteers who have restored the cemetery which serves as the final resting place for people who lived at the Niagara County Almshouse. A memorial plaque unveiling and a ceremony of remembrance will be included to honor those who are buried there. The cemetery is located across the street from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, between Townline Road and Sunset Drive. Raising Matty Christian Made New York Debut at disABILITIES Film Festival
The Spring 2014 disABILITIES Film Festival and Speaker Series, featuring the New York premiere of the movie Raising Matty Christian, was held April 25, in Buffalo. The film paints a portrait of a young man, Matthew ‘Matty’ Christian (1983-2009), who, despite severe physical challenges, was able to achieve a great degree of success in life.

The event was hosted by the Museum of disABILITY History and People Inc. Two screenings of the film were held at the Amherst Dipson Theatre and a Meet and Greet Reception with the filmmakers was held in between the showings at the Museum of disABILITY History. Raising Matty Christian Director and Producer Christian de Rezendes and Associate Producer Paul Plotkin shared the story behind the film’s creation and answered questions from audience members.
