| Book Launch: J.N. Adam Memorial Hospital: Her Inside Voice
As part of our Dialogues on disABILITY Speaker Series, Char Szabo-Perricelli, photographer/artist, will present her book, J.N. Adam Memorial Hospital: Her Inside Voice, on Friday, November 4, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 3826 Main Street, Buffalo. The free event will include a book signing and question and answer session.
Featuring the photography and writing of Char Szabo-Perricelli, the book is the result of a multi-year photo documentation project. It also includes historical support from the Museum of disABILITY History as part of our premier publications in the Abandoned History Series. From what was once a majestic medical facility to the ruins it is becoming today, this book will take you back to the grand beginning and leave you with a sense of loss for what is quickly becoming another casualty amongst many of our historical treasures.
Szabo-Perricelli shares: “A ‘meant to be’ moment was when I first laid eyes on the JN Adam Memorial Hospital back in 2001. It called to my already passionate fascination with architecture, history, mysteries and photography.”

| Congrats to Six Guys, 6,000 Miles
We are pleased to share that Six Guys, 6,000 Miles, the featured documentary at our Museum of disABILITY History Film and Speaker Series this past August, was selected for the Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival to be held in November! The film documents a one-of-a-kind cross-country trip by four participants in People Inc.’s Guys Group, a social group for young men with developmental disabilities, and two life quality coaches. In June 2015, they embarked on a journey from Buffalo, NY to the west coast for an experiential learning trip that could not be further from ordinary. If you would like to see the documentary in the meantime, DVDs of the film are for sale at the Museum of disABILITY History store and online.

Successful Fall Fundraiser and Auction
The Museum of disABILITY History Fall Fundraiser and Auction, held October 13, was a huge success due to so many of our generous supporters! We raised $6,000 for our educational programming and to create two new traveling exhibits. Attendees enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, wine and desserts, and many walked away as lucky winners of our silent auction and basket raffle!
During the event, we presented our inaugural Chris Burke Award for Excellence in Disability Advocacy to three honorees. The honorees, who all reside in Western New York, were: Engelic Everett, Marie Malinowski and Michael Rogers. Through their advocacy efforts, they exemplify the value of contributing significant work in the disability community and making inclusion a priority.
Chris Burke, an actor with Down syndrome, played Corky on the television show, “Life Goes On.” He has earned numerous awards and is a Goodwill Ambassador for the National Down Syndrome Society. He has donated numerous memorabilia items from the television show and his advocacy efforts to the Museum of disABILITY History. A video of Burke expressing his support for our Museum was played during the event.

| Holiday Party with Music by Sujeet Desai
Save the date for our free annual Holiday Party, which will be held on Thursday, December 1, from 5 to 7 p.m., 3826 Main Street, Buffalo. Sujeet Desai, an international musician who has Down syndrome, will perform music. He plays six instruments and was one of 13 musicians who was recently filmed for a commercial called “We’re Superhumans” for the 2016 Summer Paralympics.
Our event will also include refreshments and a basket raffle. Due to limited space, no-cost admission tickets are required, which will be available at our Museum of disABILITY History. To reserve your ticket or for more information, call 716.629.3626.

Day Habilitation Programs, including holiday décor, two-sided fleece blankets, handmade wooden bottle openers and ice cream scoopers, plus lots more! Shop during our Museum’s regular hours at 3826 Main Street, Buffalo. We are open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
