People Inc.'s newest Day Habilitation in South Buffalo
Ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate opening What: People Inc.'s Indian Church Day Habilitation program celebrates opening with ribbon cutting and tours When: Monday, August 17, 2009; 12:30 p.m. Where: 24 Indian Church Road near Seneca Street, (Location is set back behind storefronts on Seneca Street. Please enter from Indian Church Road.) Who: People Inc.'s President and CEO James M. Boles, Congressman Brian Higgins, Assemblymember Mark J.F. Schroeder, County Legislator Tim Kennedy for a tour of the newly renovated Indian Church Day Hab. These and other business leaders, city stakeholders, and the community will be on hand to celebrate this opening. Come and see the latest development to take place on Seneca Street, as part of the revitalization and continued great community collaboration of People Inc. with South Buffalo's community leaders. Why: People Inc. has developed its newest day program, Indian Church located in South Buffalo, based on community integration, increased independence, individualization, and productivity. Participants learn new skills and gain confidence to pursue personal goals and reach their highest level of independence in the community.

People Inc.'s Incredible Years Program is accepting participants
Program provides free training for parents Buffalo, N.Y. August 11, 2009: Children do not come with an instruction book, but help is available for parents. People Inc. is offering parents the Incredible Years Program , a free training program to help parents learn how to: Foster a positive relationship with your child Improve your child's compliance and cooperation Decrease negative behaviors at home Develop your child's social skills The Incredible Years Program offers research-based, effective programs for reducing children's aggression and behavior problems, and increasing social competence at home and at school. In the Incredible Years Program, you will learn how to cope with the stresses of parenthood, avoid power struggles, determine appropriate consequences, and develop creative and imaginative play with your child. The State University of New York at Buffalo and the Museum of disABILITY History celebrate the establishment of new Center What: The State University of New York at Buffalo and the Museum of disABILITY History are hosting event to celebrate the establishment of the Center for Disability Studies. When: Thursday, April 30, 2009; 6:00pm to 9:00pm 6 pm - 7 pm Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres 7 pm - 8:30 pm Program Where: Jacobs Executive Management Center (Butler Mansion) 672 Delaware Avenue (corner of Delaware and North), Buffalo, New York Why: The purpose of the Center will be to encourage the study, teaching and accurate representation of disability history and of individuals with disabilities. With collaborative efforts, The State University of New York at Buffalo and The Museum of disABILITY History will sponsor a visiting scholar for one semester each academic year beginning in the spring semester of the year 2010. The scholar will not only teach and promote the study of disability history, but also develop new exhibits for the ever expanding collections at the Museum of disABILITY History. Vasquez, Board Vice President, Museum of disABILITY History Dr. David Gerber, UB Distinguished Professor, Department of History, University at Buffalo Dr. Catherine Kudlick Keynote: When Blind People March for Dr. King Catherine Kudlick is the president of the Disability History Association, an international scholarly organization that promotes the academic study of disabilities. She received her BA from UC Santa Cruz in 1980, and her MA and PhD from UC Berkeley in 1988. Dr. Kudlick has been a professor in the history department of The University of California Davis since 1989. She has also studied and taught in France. Dr. Kudlick has published a number of works on disability and on the history of medicine, within the context of her specialty, French social and cultural history. Young and Old Making Special Memories
Volunteers Come Out for Beautification Efforts and Promoting Awareness Buffalo, N.Y., April 10, 2009, Volunteers from the Diocese Youth Ministry between the ages of 15 - 17 will volunteer their time as part of an intensive work camp training program during Holy week to provide services of cleaning, painting, and fellowship. On Good Friday, April 10, 2009 between 9:30AM -12:30 PM the volunteers will spend the day at People Inc.'s Seniors Unlimited Program located at 310 Delaware Avenue in Buffalo, NY. People Inc.'s Seniors Unlimited is the only program of its kind in the City of Buffalo that provides respite for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimers, Parkinsons disease, stroke and other related memory loss. In a safe, comfortable environment participants are involved in a variety of activities designed to foster self-esteem, maintain social and daily living skills, exercise the body and stimulate the mind. Activities include exercise, art, crafts, music, intergenerational program, community outings and interaction with peers. Collaborations like this provide an opportunity to promote awareness, diversity, and information sharing with the community. The day will be devoted to educating, raising awareness about individuals with special needs, community living/working together, and developing new friendships. It is a way to have fun socialization, make friends, share experiences and make a global impact, right here in Western New York. In addition, the youth will be asked to take part in raising the consciousness of the community and their peers by pledging their support and stop the offensive use of the "R-word - retard(ed)" in casual conversation.

Rally to 'Spread the Word to End the Word 3.31.09'
People Inc., The Museum of disABILITY History and Special Olympics Announce a Rally to 'Spread the Word to End the Word 3.31.09' to Raise Awareness about the 'R-word' WHAT: The rally is a part of the national collaborative effort to Spread the Word to End the Word. 3.31.09 will be a National Awareness Day to raise the consciousness of society about the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the word "retard(ed)." The day will be devoted to educating and raising awareness about individuals with intellectual disabilities. Individuals across the country will rally their schools and communities to pledge their support and stop the offensive use of the "R-word" in casual conversation at www.r-word.org. Tours of the Museum of disABILITY History will be available prior to and following the event. WHO: The Museum of disABILITY History, a project of People Inc., will unite with thousands of individuals across the nation to Spread the Word to End the Word.
